I bought a new book, “Creative Doll Making” by Patti Culea. It’s loads of fun, and I can see so many ways to Goth and Pagan these dolls right up. I had a go of the pattern in just plain black, and I quite liked the outcome – so I thought I’d muck around with it a little. These are definitely “Art Dolls”, not kiddies toys (they exude a ‘grown-up-ness’. For this doll, I straightened out one of the arms and one of the legs a little. I went for a pretty green paisley material for the whole doll – I wanted her to be more about form than garish accoutrements, plus there is something inherently creepy about a doll with no face (even if the print on the material sort of lends itself to facey-ness). I was pretty pleased with it, and I’m looking forward to playing with the pattern even more, and finding funky materials to sew her in – it’s sort of Goddess-like (or other-being-like) in a way, don’t you think?
